If you decide to use shelf liner in the future, shop around. Some are very slippery . Some are so bad that I think they are worse than newsprint. Ont he other hand, I have one kind that is super rubbery - not slick at all. That's the one I use for my chicks. (It's also available at Home Depot which makes my life easier!) Despite this, my coturnix babies get the shelf liner covered with paper towel, which are changed twice daily. They are just too messy otherwise.
 
Another thing that is a lot easier than bandaids are make up sponges. I used them for a lovebird baby that had splayed legs. You just cut two holes in the sponge where you want the legs to go. You may have to cut in in half so it is thin enough the baby can walk with it. They are the best and cheap.
