I had a Black Star that when her beak was ripped 1/2 off, I glued it with super glue and it stayed for 2yrs..it did sort of twist as it grew and I just put her in a towel and got out some heavy duty nail files and kept it even with the lower part of her beak. She was the boss til she got ill this year and died. I know how you feel .I didn't have the heart to cull my chicken (I know, it comes with the territory, and I need to toughen up.) It's my first time owning chickens and this one had scissor beak. I actually put an ad on Criagslist offering for someone to rescue it. I got a call in about an hour, and in two days, a woman who was willing to give her "special care" picked her up and took her home. willing to file her beak and feed her special mushy food.. This was an easy, stress free way for me to deal with the problem.
