Cunning little fox!!!! 2 chickens killed :( :(

So my fiancee and I went away for the night last night and got a call from his mother saying that when she visited our house to check up on the chickens there was a FOX in the coop run!!!!! She locked it in the coop/run....2 hens had been killed and the other 7 hens had escaped. Some how by the time I got home (3 hrs later) the fox had escaped....i think he jumped up and out a flap of chicken wire.

2 Questions

1. Will the fox return even though it was traumatized about being trapped??

2. My hens will not go roost in thier coop of death now.....I found them huddled together in the dog house sized duck coop...which I locked them in to keep them safe. How do I get them back in the coop?

Yes, the fox will be back. It is a predator and will go back where there is an easy meal.
You could completely clean your coop. Use some ACV to cut the predator smell. Then reintroduce your flock.

I cleaned my whole coop and put new hay and food and raked everything else out. What is ACV though?

The fox has probably been checking every night. Hope springs eternal on the part of predators. They just wait for that one moment that you neglect to lock the coop in the evening. You may have to lock the chickens in the coop until they once again feel secure. The fox will be back. Vixens are carrying kits right now and will whelp in another month or so. Then the feeding frenzy really begins. Electric fence around your pen would be a great deterrent. Sorry for your loss and good luck. Geo.
