I have been wanting a cupola forever and when I got my chicken coop I had a A-ha moment . My husband built two horse barns but with all the pleading was just not in his plans . I ordered a resin cupalo but it was not the right size and they sent me the wrong weathervane , so back to the drawing board . Found various cupolas on Ebay for very large amounts of money . I ended up buying an unfinished birdhouse for a cupola and painting it my coop colors . My husband took off the things that would have attached it to a post , measured the pitch on the coop roof and built a V shaped base . Now all I need ( and to fiqure out how to attach ) a weathervane . Do need to put the plexiglass windows on before he mounts it . Just thought I would post this as an alternative to the expensive cupalos .

I am not into the whole cute-decoration thing for coops but, that said, boy that is so CLEVER, great job!! If I were going to do that at all, your birdhouse adaptation would be TOTALLY the way to go! <applause>

Thank you ,
This Cupalo / birdhouse is all handmade and was just 40.00 and some of his are cheaper depending on whos bidding at the time . Most cupalos start at over 200.00 and are non-functioning and the nice garden shed ones that have the light , vents went all the way up to 2500.00 +

I am totally into making the coops look great. What an adorable idea. Great way to repurpose something to make it work for you. As far as a weathervane, you might try searching on Etsy.com for something handmade or an artist to make it down to scale or you might check Ebay for a sample sale (the mini ones shown in stores)?

Thank you . I have never heard of Etsy.com , thanks for the information . I definitely would like a rooster weathervane in a smaller size , would love a copper one . My husband offered to put a light in my cupola but thought it might draw bugs and wasn't sure about the electricity part .
