MY 4.5 year old dog just killed a chicken, that consistently flew out of the coop, yesterday. He doesn't go in the chicken run or try to get in at all. Sadly, there was nothing to be done about it. Now, my concern is that he might do this again. Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent another occurrence?

Kill event may have been a reflex to bird passing by rapidly. Effort can be made to get dog into greater control over such refluxes. This does not mean dog can not be in future trusted around chickens despite dogs age.

Thank you! We've been working on getting everyone in the habit of making sure the chickens are in their run before letting the dogs out.
Thanks for your advice!
