I have an elevated 8x8 coop. It's currently housing 17 of my hens. I am looking at getting rid of said hens in that coop and getting into quail. My question is...
Can quail live in an 8x8 elevated coop...
There is a 530sq ft run build around the coop (coop is inside the run)

It is netted high (think kinda like a circus tent)

Is that too much space for quail?
Do they need outdoor space like chickens do??
Idk what number I am looking at yet...just kinda digging around

There is no such thing as too much space. That being said, quail are ground birds, so they will not roost and may not use the elevated coop. If you choose to keep them in the coop only, they will need a place to rest their feet if the flooring is wire.

Do you have hardwire around the run because you’ll need that. I’ve seen quail squeeze through the smallest of space and or predators get in

Half of it is covered in 25ftx4ft 19g hardwire.
I have plans to cut it off at abt 2 ft and place some on the other side...just haven't done it yet

What type of quail were you thinking of getting?

What type of quail were you thinking of getting?

I am not so sure yet. Thinking Coturnix. We'd be raising them for meat and eggs.

Courtnix are a solid option for those uses. Bobwhites are also used for similar reasons. Except they take longer to mature. It also depends on if your looking for quail that are friendly or quail that can be friendly but are still more intact with their wild side.
