I personally feel that my chickens are chickens and they really need to treated like a chicken.

I fully agree with this statement, But as you stated its differant strokes for differant folks.

Agree, Chickens are livestock not pets even if I only have 5.
I like to watch them wile outside and enjoy taking care of them. But to allow them in my house is a definite no.
Most 3rd/2ed world countries where avian flue has originated is because they allow there bird to LIVE with them.

Wow, that post got some intersting feed back. Love it. Obviouslly alot of you folks love your chickens so much that you don't have a problem with them indoors(your personal, family, clean enviroment). More power to ya.....I just think they belong in their own enviroment. But that enviroment should be clean, safe, dry and warm or ventilated(depending where you live). Just my opinion, again. But still don't want them pooping on my clean floors where my Grandkids paly.

I learned my lesson with the first batch I got. Had 15 in the basement in a wooden playpen for 17 weeks. Had to clean pen out 2 times a day, dust every where and 2 years later I think I need to call someone in to clean out the heating ducts from all the dust. Would not recommend.

A woman I know has had "house chickens" for many years. Currently she has a special needs silky Roo (3 yrs.old) and a couple of Serama pullets. They are in her house totally. At first they slept in cages - then proved they could behave at night - so now the seramas sleep in bed with her. The roo has his own small dog bed which the serama's take over whenever they feel like it. She also has a pek-apoo small dog who accepts them. The seramas steal food from his mouth, peck food out of his fur and take his chew bones. They also crowd him out of his bed.He is long past caring about it - just a real good sport. He has seen chickens come and chickens go over his years.

The rooster and dog often chase each other around the couch. The roo is the instigator and of course it proves exercise for both of them. She doesn't do diapers buts lots of laundry. She has scatter rugs everywhere or towels for their very frequent messes. She lets them eat food out of her plate. I would draw the line at most of that but, I do have to admit her house doesn't smell in the slightest bit.

She is a senior and has lots of time to devote to pooper scooper .The seramas expect to watch tv with her every day and squawk if she doesn't join them on the chair. They also lay eggs on the chair, so she has to check before she is seated. Sometimes when she walks the dog, she will carry one of the chickens with her. Different strokes for different folks.

i really enjoy my chickens......they sneak in if the dog opens the door for them...but they need to live in the coop!!!

Do you let the chicken(s) have a run of the house? No
How do you deal with the poop? Do you really use diapers? Are they easy/hard to deal with? How often do you change them? Don't use diapers I only let one chicken in the house and she does not poo that much maybe 2 times and that is on paper towels that she is on.
Does the chicken(s) get along with other animals in the house, or are they the only animal? Yes
Does your indoor chicken(s) have a small coop or cage to go to to sleep at night, or do you just have something for them to roost on? cage with roost at night
If they have diapers, how do they lay eggs? NONE
