I agree, you have a cockerel. I agree with Fred, I have a pure bred RIR that I purchased from a local breeder. He's not aggressive at all. On the other hand I have a leghorn rooster who is aggressive with my 4 year.

I would get rid of him soon if I were you. Every Rhode Island Red Rooster I have heard about what very mean once they matured. Agressive towards people that is. Even my neighbor down the street got rid of theirs. They thpught all roosters would be that way!

That's only because your experience has really been with hatchery grade stock that are production reds.  True bred Rhode Island Reds are often as tame and friendly as puppies.  True Reds cannot be purchased from feed stores, auctions or hatcheries, however.

I had a Rhode Island Red rooster and I loved him so much! He may have not liked me but he respected me and wasn't mean to me at all!!!

well I guess I learn something new every day too! But we still stay away from rhode island reds. The only ones we would keep are the bantam rosecombs . But we dont have room for more breeding birds.
