If my chickens are acting normal on this hot day 🥵 in western ny and they have their beaks open are they ok there isn't any sounds but them talking crap to me lol I mean I have the girls with me and they are eating and doing normal chick stuff but also how do you know when to put your other chickens with the older chickens like my girls are about to start laying anytime they are submissive and my other girls the 6 are about 10weeks ish and I been allowing the girls to come out in a different part of the yard and they like to be in this lil set up we had from our dogs it's a octagon shape and they peck grass etc etc well the lil girls are able to run around the outside of it I seen a lot say when introducing bring them to neutral territory so they all come out here I have never added to a flock before in Feb I lost my 4 to a fox they were my first which we gave a bunch of chicks and ducks to someone and then had them well the day before is when my two girls were born so they have a bday of Feb 18th and my other girls are end of April beginning of May I believe I bought them from a store they were about 3 to 4weeks when I purchased them third week of May so yea what do you guys think?

Hi,
I think the heat problems are something we are all going to get used to so this site makes it invaluable to share the knowledge we all have.
Here are my suggestions for keeping your girls cooler in the heat,
1. Misters, keep your girls underneath by putting the mister in a tray of water with an ice pack or two and add treats such as sweet corn or sunflower seeds.
2. If possible spray the ground around the hen house before they go to bed to help keep it cooler, it increases the humidity but 🤷‍♀️
3. Make sure there is plenty of high level ventilation
4. Recheck that due to Chicken Math your girls aren’t overcrowded
5. Plenty of shade
6. Places to dig they seem to make, ankle breaking, holes to keep themselves cool
7. Some sort of fan system in the hen house, I’m still waiting for a solar fan
8. If no solar fan then how about a bowl with a frozen bottle of water (or two) and a fan blowing it which cools the air for a little while
9. I have bell water drinkers and put ice packs in them
I think that’s all, ice packs aren’t ideal and need changing throughout the day if you can.
Hope these ideas help

Yea chasing them with spray bottles is a blast but too much lol and they must be swearing at me lol but they come back for more and then swear at me again 😂 but I'm guna try everything so they are in a open are 8 by 8 with the coop inside kinda in the middle and we put two tarps over the top of the thing we got it's what tractor supply was keeping the babies in this year that hen house they have over a thousand dollars between the two products bought for them I can take a picture and show u if you would like I was hoping to build off the side that opens up and put some roosts in there and make sure when all 8 are together they have plenty enuff room and no issues on where who sleeps when but another question when putting chickens together did u ever see a hen grab a pullet by the neck and not let go?

These are my babies in neutral territory my big girls like the old dog area we have
