Old English Standard Games are the best mothers. Extremely protective of their brood (will take on predators to protect her chicks) and very good at teaching their chicks how to survive. My OE Hen hatched 6 chicks out this year (outside the coop and without my knowledge under a bush somewhere) and she has taught them to roost high in our tall Boxwoods and during the day she has taught them to stay under our Privet Hedges to avoid the resident Cooper's Hawks who been prowling the area.
