The post-mortem of the eggs has revealed mixed fault: the majority of the eggs were infertile. A small number died at some early point in development. Of what was left, just over half hatched well and are healthy. The others I turned into jerky. The inner membrane was leathery and stuck to the chicks.
So I have another question. I bought my hygrometer at a pet store for five bucks. It's for terrariums I think. I'm re-reading the UT Hatching Guide, and it discusses wet bulb vs. dry bulb readings, and has some plan for making one with a thermometer and shoelace. Would that be more accurate than what I've got? What do you all use for hygrometers? It was heartbreaking opening up all those perfectly formed shrink-wrapped pre-quail. I don't ever want to do that again.
