Back in January I hatched some eggs that were shipped to me. One of the chicks had splayed legs which I managed to correct in its first week of life. However, it’s toes have curled. It still eats and drinks and keeps up with its siblings. However, I would like to know if the problem will correct itself as the chick grows?

I reckon it won’t be able to perch once the others start roosting. I would love to hear your advice!

Thanks

hello! that chimmy is a very nice one! I had a curled toe baby once, and I used shortened dull toothpicks taped with med tape around the toes to keep them straight, like a cast or splint kind of thing.

This is not Curled Toes, it's Crooked Toes.
Crooked Toes can be caused by incorrect incubation, genetics, the brooder floor being too cold, etc.

Crooked Toes cannot be corrected and it would be painful to do so. This chick's toes are already set, so I would manage/tend to the feet weekly keeping nails trimmed and feet clean.
There's already signs of Contact Dermatitis on the bottom of the toes and watch for signs of lesions/sore spots. Keep the chick's feet dry and free of poop and debris.
