I had a chick hatch this morning with one foot have curled toes....What if anything can I do for this chick? I have read to "splint" it, but I know I can't open the bator till my hatch is over....Thoughts?

You can either open your bator and get the chick out or as long as you fix it withing the first 24 hours then it should be fine. And many times it will uncurl on it's own. Take the chick and get a large bandaid. Cut the two sticky tabs off the bandaid. Holding the chicks toes as close to normal position as possible, place its foot on one sticky tab. Adjust its toes as needed. Now place the other sticky tab over the top of the foot to sandwich the toes between the sticky tabs. Cut off the extra so that it looks like a duck foot. Leave this on for 24 hours. After 24 hours, depending on the quality of the bandaid, run the foot under warm water to soak the bandaid and remove from foot. Be careful when removing so as to not tear off the toenails. After removing the bandaid let it walk and see if the toes are still curled. If so, then redo the bandaid splint for another 24 hours. Usually the first time will take care of it though. Hope that helps you.

Thank you sooooo much....

Unforunately I can't open the bator cause I have another pip, I guess I will see if that one hatches today and try to "fix" it tonight...
