I think I have had to use duct tape because it sticks to just about anything. It is just not fun to remove since it does stick so well.

i dont even know why... it just died... it was fine a couple hours ago,, then it just was cold and still

this is the 7th one i lost

i didnt even lose this many the first time i incubated them

I dont know... 3 have died in the past two days.... and two are heading that way... what am i doing wrong????? i am feeding the two super sick ones yogurt to give them some healthy stuff and some energy and liquids, plus i dont have a dropper so yogurt is thick enough to get in with a toothpick... its soooo sad and upsetting

Super sorry - I haven't been through this so don't have any advice to give (wondering whether the yogurt is too thick? maybe just stick with chick starter? dunno...sorry

Where did you get your eggs from? Perhaps the flock has something effecting the mortality of your chicks? It is possible. Don't beat yourself up, it happens to everyone at some point. It is disheartening to have losses like this.
The first thing I think of in a case like this is Marek's. I got a number of chicks of different breeds from a very well-known breeder this spring. I had one breed that I lost about 40% of my chicks. I only lost a couple of the other six or so breeds that I got from him (I had about 10-12 of each breed, some I had more). I was stumped because these were healthy chicks at one feeding and 10-12 hours later they were dead. But the odd thing in my case is they were all from the same breed. I know that flock is tested and is supposed to be clean, but you just never know what may cause things like this.

Get out the Band-Aids. Cut the sticky ends off the Telfa pad. Put one sticky pad down,sticky side up and place the foot with toes extended on it. Put the other sticky pad down, sticky side down on top of this to make a "Foot Sandwich". Keep this on for at least 24 hours. Usually this is enough time for the feet to adhere to their new position but if need be, do it for another day. The pads are enough. No need for cardboard or pieces of margarine lids. Good Luck.
