Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Bama, have you seen 'Weeds'? I think they have all the seasons, I haven't watched it, but I know our 16yr old dd does :th
'Master of none' with Aziz Ansari looks good, and a netflix exclusive. 'Kid Cannabis' with Ron Perlman looks very funny and is based on a true story.
I'm sure you've already watched 'The trailer park boys' movie, if not they have it.

Word up playa

Saw "Pan" today. It was pretty entertaining. A prequel to the Peter Pan story with lots of references to future happenings. Hugh Jackman was all but unrecognizable as BlackBeard in it. I was in hysterics because at BlackBeard's camp the laborers were chanting "Teen Spirit" and "Blitzkrieg Bop" and -- being by far the youngest of the movie ladies -- I was the only one who caught it or knew what it was and lyrics. Some script writer has a very funny sense of humor.
Anyway, the special effects were dazzling, but you could tell parts of the movie were made for 3D-glasses audiences. The film was fairly action-packed. And, alas, set itself up for yet another prequel. However, I would not recommend this movie for small children... Too adult and too scary.

Thanks for the review. We thought about going to see Pan but decided against spending the money on it because it was getting so many poor reviews in Rotten Tomatoes.

It's one of the lowest grossing movies of all time. Not something you want to advertise

Of course a box office bust doesn't always make for a bad movie. John Carter didn't cover budget (although admittedly it had an enormous budget), but it was still a very enjoyable movie. I think the biggest problem with John Carter was an absolutely terrible marketing job by Disney. Also, they should have left the original book title "A Princess of Mars" rather than changing it to "John Carter." Unless you were from my generation and had read the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, you were probably thinking, "Who in the heck is John Carter?"
