THE PROFESSOR (2019)

So it was my turn to rent a movie and decided to go with one of my visceral delights, a Johnny Depp movie. No explosions (well, except emotional), no gunfire, no heavy machinery.
This movie tackles a big subject, though: Impending death. And it tackles it without being maudlin, but with humor and -- true Depp style -- quirkiness.
The plot is that a college professor (Depp) is diagnosed with a terminal illness and it's the story of what he does with the rest of his life. He has sticky relationships to close...or not. He has one last classroom of kids to enlighten. He takes a "WTF, no holds barred" approach and renders his decisions without hurting anyone.
This actually is a classy well-thought-out movie! It may spark some overdue discussions. I highly recommend it...as does my therapist DH.

First Johnny movie I ever saw was "Edward Scissor Hands," I loved it and cried for the way he was treated.

Later on I found one of his movies on TV, "What's Eating Albert Grape." or some name close to that. He was fantastic. His mother was morbidly obese and confined to bed. He did his best to care for her and his young brother (adorable little Leonardo DiCaprio.)

I liked the first three or so "Pirates of the Carribean," then I guess I just outgrew them.

Today we saw "The Art of Racing in the Rain." A family story of love, loss, perfidy, success and hope told through the eyes of a dog. The movie starts with an old golden retriever preparing to die. Dee Dee I would not recommend that you see this movie. Princess cried through at least half of it but still gives it a 4 as do I. Milo Ventimiglia, my man crush ever since 'This is Us' is great, but the dog/dogs steal the show. An emotional but good movie with a quirky ending that gives HOPE.
