My wife, son, and I went to see The Martian last night. It was a fascinating movie and truly a Science Fiction film as opposed to so many SF films which are actually Science Fantasy films. The movie provided a nice blend of humor and suspense; it sort of reminded me of Cast Away on Mars. )
There is a huge culture change as you go from state to state when it comes to guns. Here in Ga, AL an TN I run around with a .410 revolver on my hip an an AR-15 in the back window of my truck without issue. People don't usually even notice unless I go down around Atlanta. I get looks in Atlanta but nothing has ever been said... In all these years I have only had one time something was said. It was a walmart manager who told me I could not have a gun in the store. I told her she was wrong an what the rules are an to call corporate. She got on the phone an never said another word to me.
Contrast that to my trip the other day. I had to cut across the pan handle of Maryland. Maybe 20 miles of a 1444 mile road trip. I am required to stop before entering their state an unload all my guns, and lock the guns an ammo in separate locking compartments that are not part of the passenger area. I am then not aloud to stop in their state. (gas?) I am driving a truck. It has no compartments outside the passenger area an the only compartment it does have is the glove box an it does not lock... Needless to say, the only rule of theirs I followed was not stopping an giving them any of my money...
Pennsylvania was as far as I needed to go but I would have had the same issue if I needed to cross Connecticut, Rode Island, New York an a few others.
That trip was the fist time in years that I had to put more though in to my guns than I do my car keys or cell phone.
It's true about the culture change from state to state. In 2012, I drove up to LI to visit my cousins. One of whom is retired NYPD. He was floored when he found out I carry and that it's quite common in these parts. He thinks it's crazy that we are an open carry state. I think maybe it's just because he's used to enforcing laws on their books that are so completely different than they are down here. He was finally able to wrap his head around it and then the next thing he said, "please tell me you don't put it in your purse or I'm gonna have to kick your ***". I think I was about to get a lecture on that being the worst place for a woman to put it. He chilled out once he realized that I'm not just running around willy nilly with it and when I explained my DH is in the same line of work he was in and taught me the correct way to do things.
Cousin's at least 10 years older than me and I think sometimes he forgets that I'm a 40+yo adult and not the bratty kid who spent her summers up there with them.
As far as traveling goes, I refuse to cross state lines with it just to save on the headache. I know not all states will honor CCW permits issued in other states. To each, his own I guess. As long as nobody comes knocking on my door telling me to hand them over, it's all good.
The Dog the Bounty Hunter thing kinda gets me too. I can't remember if their reasoning is because of their laws or just their personal views, but it always made me sorta confused. My DH once said to me(waaay back before his career change) "you can't bring a knife to a gun fight". I always think of that statement when I see them on TV. Carrying spray doesn't seem the safest choice when entering a dwelling where there's a potentially armed offender who doesn't want to go back to the pokey waiting for me. But, that's just me.
One of the things that has been so different about Montana than Hawaii is to see customers walk into the stores and restaurants wearing holsters with revolvers in them. I had guns growing up, and I'm sure at some point soon we'll get some guns here in Montana.
Montana was one of my dad's favorite places. He was a pilot and I remember he would always tell me how beautiful it is out there. I also noticed in the ipad browsing history my DH was googling properties/homes there. I've never been there, but it's on my bucket list.
I'll stop here. LOL I know this is a thread for movie talk. I don't want to be a hijacker.

Good to know! I may have to put this one on my list of movies to check out. I was hesitant because the one with Sandra Bullock, made me totally squirmy and stressed out. I'm sure they are 2 entirely different stories, but sometimes things like that stress me more than anything. I thought Castaway was going to do that to me, but it did not.
We saw 'The Intern' today. Good entertainment. I could relate to the De Niro character in so many ways. If the laughter was any gauge, the rest of the audience enjoyed this movie also.
Most do Georgia's but some dont honor anyones an others have issue with us not having a training requirement. Only one border state to worry about on short trips. Va does not but open carry or carry in your glove box is legal without a license. SC is the only southern state that is an issue so other than there I dont worry about it unless I am leaving Dixie..
SC is one of the states that has issue with us not having a training requirement an refuses to honor ours. But it shoots its self in the foot at the same time cause Ga law is that we honor any states that honor ours. Sense they dont, by law we dont. Being that Ga is almost half of SC border, it hurts them more than us. Car carry is legal for everyone in Ga though so not to much of a problem for them.
