Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I think I neglected to mention we didn't get to see the western movie H and High Water, the one show had all but 2 seats reserved (in separate rows) and we figured after the long drive it would be sold out. Think it is supposed to be wider release this weekend. I hope. I know a lot of folks don't care for westerns - no super heroes, no car chases and cgi but, older people grew up with them.

Russell Crowe and * Christian Bale were great a few years ago in the remake of "3:10 to Yuma." My (adult son) didn't like it at all. Older movie with Kirk Douglas called "Lonely are the Brave." was great too and "Silverado" with Kevin Kostner excellent.

Loved "3:10 to Yuma." both old and new, old was awesome!! Never watched it until the new one was out, I'd have to flip a quarter to say which was better.
Thank you @BantamFan4Life for mentioning 'The last ship', off to watch the last episode of the first season, Hulu has the second also :-) really like good shows for late night, get to bed at a decent time, movies sometimes are just too darn long...

Making my second attempt to see " Heck and High Water" tomorrow. Was sold out in the one tiny theatre that had it last week. This week they have only one showing of it in an ever smaller theatre. I'm guessing it didn't go over well.

We will travel farther to a bigger venue that has it this week. Maybe folks don't care for movies without cgi and 50 cars wrecks. But I do.

Saw "H or High Water," with Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges. Got a great feeling of time and place, where I could understand how it felt to live under those conditions.. The roles were well fleshed out to the point where I cared about all of their lives -good and bad. Even the minor roles were very well done. Some very humorous dialog really cracked my brother and I up. I really enjoyed this movie and give it 4 stars (top rating) my brother gave it 2 3/4 stars.

If any one is old enough to recall the restaurant ordering scene from "Five Easy Pieces," - very young Jack Nicholson period. The Waitress in this movie puts her own spin on it and makes it her own.

My brother has just reminded me that the movie "SULLY," starring Tom Hanks will be released 9-8. This is based on the "Miracle on the Hudson, airplane story where the pilot did not lose a single passenger.

deedee, on your recommendation we saw "H or High Water". Very good movie. Early in the movie I couldn't hear some of the dialog between the brothers, and because of that I give it 3.5 stars. Loved the interaction between the waitress and the two Rangers in the T-Bone café.

I think it's cause we're old Sour. My brother and I are always saying "what did he say? what did she say?" Of course neither of us knows. Maybe we need those assistive devices the theatres have - whatever that is. Going to need to learn lip reading or sit closer to the screen (ick, hate that!)

Can't wait to see "Sully."
