Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Watched "The Tank" (a/k/a "The Tiger") on Prime last night, a WWII German-viewpoint film. Kind of a mash-up of "Das Boot" for claustrophobia, "Catch-22" -- without the humor -- for flashbacks, "Apocalypse Now" for the mission, and a strange pivot into "The Sixth Sense" for all the Easter eggs. A very gritty movie. The tank is a true star in this one as I found myself multiple times uttering "Cool!"

Last night the tv ran the movie "Joe Black" again. Is the angel of death is looking as handsome of Brad Pitt, then..fear no more:lau

I know it is an old movie......but it is a good movie, what is the moral story of this movie? Live well and when the time comes, one goes without regret.

I give it 5/5
I watched it, too, having not ever seen it before. My first comment was "This seems like a take on "Death Takes a Holiday" (an old Monte Markham movie from decades ago), although the main premise in that film was that Death falling in love meant he wasn't doing his duties and thusly hospitals were overflowing with folks not dying. I was pleasantly surprised to see in the final credits of "Joe Black" that it was based on the play "Death Takes a Holiday" from which the movie by the same name was based.

Anyway, it was fun to see the cast SO young. But it is a rather long movie that could've used abbreviating, except the sumptuous ambiance was visually enjoyable. Another Hopkins/Pitt pairing movie equally visually and perhaps more cinematically great is "Legends of the Fall."

BTW, Did you catch the villain in "Joe Black" was Jake Weber from "Medium"?

This week I also watched the movie Train Dreams.

I give it a 4/5 because I like such slow movie.

This movie makes me ponder about life in general. This man's life is slow & quiet compared to many of our life today. It was slow, but it has meaning and depth. He lived out his life peacefully, but with loneliness and he did not make any effort to get out of it. Did he not want to or just don't know how because it takes so much effort? Might be he thought it would be nice to get out of solitude, but the outcome is not worth the effort...who knows?
To me, this movie felt very much like watching "Jeremiah Johnson." A quiet loner, a sad life, a negligible footnote of existence. Joel Edgerton was good (but, then, I like whatever he's in) and Bill Macy's star turn was brief but memorable. So glad I'm not a logger. ;)

I have not seen the movie "Death Takes a Holiday". Yes, I recognised Jake Weber in the tv series "Medium", how they made him look such a good husband in one movie and horrid man in the other:)

Agree Joe Black movie is very enjoyable. I like everything about it, I was imagining if death comes around and say hey...it is time what would one be thinking/saying?

I have not seen the movie "Jeremiah Johnson", but I will soon, I like Western Movie. I love the movie Slow West and True Grid.
Joe Edgerton/Mat Damon/ is relatable actors because they looks like someone that one is work with, neighbour, the person at the shop...etc.. I found that actors that are relatable is more convincing of the characters they play.

I’m going to move over there. NO ONE in Atlanta looks like Matt Damon 🤣

Tom Hanks is relatable, he is so convincing in all his movies.
Brad Pitt is too handsome, not relatable and most likely looking at the mirror of himself than looking at me..."Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"... it has got to be me...🤣

When I look Tom Hanks, Mat Damon, Joe Edgerton or other actors like that they are relatable, they could be someone husband/father/son that can fix the door, build a fence, and not looking at the mirror of themselves🤣

If you like Matt Damon, you must watch The Martian, he’s excellent. And if you love Tom Hanks (who doesn’t) then A Man Named Otto is excellent! Of course everything he does is great.

Yes, and yes I saw both of those movies many times over and love them ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ all the way to Mar

See..they are capable Men that can build, fix and plan things! ..no staring at themselves in the mirror🤣

They do look like people we see in our every day life going about their business...
