*~(Currently Nameless!) The Silkie Hen~* (Photos included!) Need more name suggestions!

Day Two:

She came out with the Polish in the cage today and we sat the cage outside by the coops. When we freeranged the rest of the flocks one by one like we normally do, we let her out of the cage. We needed to audition for possible coop mates. The Ameraucanas were first. She is mortally afraid of all chickens, the poor thing, so I knew we needed to introduce her to some chickens that would never hurt her.

Phoenix and his ladies ignored her for the most part, like normal, and carried on with their ranging. :p Everytime one made a sudden movement, though, the silkie jumped and tried to run away. I picked her up and held her for a little while, then put her back down. All went well with the Ameraucanas. Next, was the Cochins, who I thought would be the best. Onyx, the rooster, who is very grumpy, was the only one I was worried about. They all came out like normal and ignored her, especially the younger ones.

Then Nyx and Clouds came in. Belle the Biting Broody Butt came in, but went right up to her nest and sat back down. Onyx was getting close to her, but I deterred him, because I didnt know how he would react. Then my gram suggested that I let him go and see what he does. Reluctantly, I stood back and let him approach her. He looked at her, and she flinched, and then he lightly bit her back abd she went berserk. She ran around in circles in the coop until I caught her, held her and calmed her down. I scooched all of the Cochins out and shut the door. Right away, she went pecking and scratching and dusting in the straw. She was having a ball in there, dustbathing! This was most likely her furst ever time too.

How are you planning to introduce her?

I don't know, honestly. There's a possibility that hey won't accept her and she'll get beat up. A few ideas of building a new coop and splitting it in half for the Polish and a Silkie flock have been circling ;) If she's not a newcomer, she will probably have a better chance. I doubt the Ameraucanas would hurt her though. She's just so afraid of other chickens, but loves people!

I have the same issue with my pullet, Ella. She is picked on by one chicken; Petrie. She bled pretty bad. I let Ella go in the coop and put Petrie in a cage, but Ella still sleeps inside in a box for now.

Yeah I hope she'll get over her fear of other chickens, roosters especially...

Day Three:

She came outside again today to explore with the Polish. We let the Ameraucanas out first and I took her over with them and sat her down. She ran between me and the coop and back into her cage.

Next were the Cochins. They left her alone for the most part, but as soon as one came near her, she freaked out. She stayed in their coop, though. When it was time to put them in, I brought her out with the Polish again and she and three chicks went behing the cage in the straw and started dusting! It was the cutest thing ever!

She stayed there while we let the rebels out to run. This includes Jasper and his girls, but they didnt mind them. She and the chicks wanted to keep dustbathing, so we came up with a plan. Put her and the Polish, in their cage, in the Cochin's coop in the corner touching the wall, so they can't get out and the Cochins can't get in. There is space for them to dust and if all is well, we won't bring them in tonight and they can stay there.
