i thought i would put curtains on my egg laying boxes to give thm more privqcy, however since the weather is still -20 C they do not want to go into the boxes. I just got my chicks a week ago but they are 3 months old. They lay afew in the coop floor, i guess because it is too cold right now in the boxes and i have a heat lite in the coop.
I also painted a rooster on wall, to encourage them to lay more....

Have you tried fake eggs or gulf balls in the boxes to show them where to lay, this has worked for my young pullets.

Most chickens wouldn’t have the brains to know to push through those curtains. Open them up a bit so they can get through.
And try putting some fake eggs/ golf balls in each nest box to encourage them to lay there.

Love the pic!! I vote yes on encouragement ;) A golf ball and parting my curtains definitely encouraged my ladies. Before that they had no clue!
