Curtains in the Coop?

Quote:
How about Shower curtains. The dollar store might have something.... Here is another thought.... Buy heavy Cotton print that you like then Scotch guard it before you sew it into curtains. Makes it water proof Probably will protect the print better too.

I used to do all my perches and nest boxes painted in flowers and vines when I raised Parakeets and Finches. I may do that again on my next chicken coop renovation. Nice thing about painting the wood surfaces in the coop is it protects the wood from moisture and makes it easier to wash off periodically especially if you use a good latex. I used to buy just acrylic primer then tint it myself with my own Acrylics I used for painting pictures. Worked great. Cheap too.

Sorry no pictures that stuff was done 20 years ago.

I'd get whatever washable fabric you like and go for it. Either choose a pattern that will hide stains or spray your finished curtains with a fabric protector. You'll need to reapply each time you wash them if you go that route. The stain proofing formulas were overhauled several years back and are supposed to be non-toxic now. As always, I'd exercise a bit of extra caution and let the treatment dry well overnight before hanging in the coop.

Have you ever heard of oilcloth? It is sometimes used to make restaurant tablecloths. If you can't find it in a fabric you like, you might try using the Heat N' Bond iron-on laminate.

wow fantastic idea's!!! We just got our first chickens a month ago and have made an old play house into our coop. As we learn about our chickens and learn so much from this site, we are making improvements to what we have but we already have big dreams fro our permanent coop to built in the next year or two.

The curtains are brilliant!! Our permanent coop will be a hobbit hole coop with a green roof, have a garden all around it and now curtains!! We plan to use an old desk to make nesting boxes and i seen a picture of someone who used on old empty computer moniter as a nest so we are doing that and going to put it on the desk :) i love the chandalier!! lol i am so excited!!! we both love our chickens and look forward to building the next coop and going crazy with the design. :)

Thanks for all the good idea's!!

Happy Chicken Mama :)
