Use Dog toe nail clippers. Take off a tiny bit at a time to make sure that you dont go too far. Then use an emery board or nail file to smooth the edges.
Same process for the toe nails which often over grow on caged or penned birds.
Be sure when you are clipping nails, to go just a tiny bit at a time so that you dont cut so far up that bleeding occurs. It is a good idea to have some Quick Stop styptic powder for Birds on hand to stop the bleeding if you do cut too far, or just be really careful and try to look to see the dark blood vein in the center of the nail and stop before you get to that point.
