I thought my hen had a broken blood feather yesterday, but when I finally caught her up, it turned out she has about an inch long cut on her tail area. I have no ideaI if a hawk tried to grab her or one of the other birds cut her and I honestly didn't know what I should do. I absolutely hosed it with Vetericyn and then sprayed it with Bluekote. (I didn't find out it was bad for laying birds until today- it was in a book I'd gotten for research before getting chickens as a 'must have int the first aid kit' item). I wasn't prepared for isolating her. She is molting and I know you aren't supposed to handle them a lot when they are molting and she is also the bird who likes me the least. Do I need to crate her or will she heal OK after what I did? What else do I need to do? I'm sorry I don't have a picture- it was just me and I couldn't spread her fluffy feathers and take the pic while holding her in my other hand. I hate to separate her if it's unnecessary because of the extra stress and how little she enjoys my company, but I want to do whatever is best for her.
