Cut on the head!!

We have Cornish cross.. they are about 2-3 weeks old.. this one had its head stuck in a feeder when we went to check on them during the day!!

Can we treat this?? Can we help this baby?? Still eating and drinking and being just as active as it has been!!

Yes you can treat that. Once healed it will probably look completely normal. You may need to separate if others a pecking at it, they will peck at red and at wounds. Flush it out well with some chlorhexidine (hibiclens) or diluted betadine, or plain mild soapy water. Make sure there is not debris in there. Apply some plain (no pain killer) triple antibiotic ointment (human stuff for minor wounds, any pharmacy) to cover the wound in it and keep it moist. Don't try to bandage it. Reapply the ointment several times a day as needed to keep the wound covered and moist. Combs usually heal fast, and the head will scab over gradually. The scab may be thick. Keep applying the ointment to keep it moist, which will help with healing and will help keep the scab from splitting or cracking. It will gradually come off on it's own. The feathers will fill in and cover it all, and all will look like nothing ever happened.
