hello all,

I have a 3 month old ee pullet that has a cut on her middle toe. Should I Worry about it, or let it be? Thanks BAB

It sure won't hurt to clean the cut out with a diluted Betadine solution*diluted to look like very weak tea* and put some antibacterial ointment on it, just to be safe.
Make sure to use the ointment without any painkiller in it. Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment will do.
I personally use Tea Tree Oil also.
If the other chickens start pecking at the cut, you can use Blu-Kote to keep on the wound. It'll have some antiseptic qualities and also tastes bad so they don't peck it.
Make sure to wear gloves or use plastic bags to cover your hands since Blu-Kote stains! I use the dauber bottle and use a q-tip to apply. They don't seem to shake it all over you like they do when you use a lot with the dauber.

Hope this helps

Thank you,

Actually, I was once Fresh Eggs, but something happened to it, and I could not get on!!! Well, thank you for the help. The cut looks to be scabbing over as we speak. Do you think I could get Betadine solution at the feed store? I already have neosporin.

If it's already scabbing over and they aren't picking at it and it shows no signs of infection then you can either just leave it and keep an eye on it or just put the neosporin on it until it heals.

Betadine solution usually is found at drug stores or Walmart, Target etc. Some feed stores may carry it or something similiar.
