That's what raided my turkey nest last year...18 eggs gone overnight. I don't like armadillos

That is really rare. They are mainly insectivores and great at digging up harmful grubs in gardens

yes they can carry leprosy as well as (I think) distemper, or at least some disease that is communicable to unvacinated dogs. How ever leprosy is easily curable, rarely transmitted, and is rarely caught and tends to show up in people with weaker immune systems ( at least this is why I have been told by my doctor) Also armadillos are easily injured so try not to be rough with the little guys.

They are enjoyable little creatures. I've never heard of our Armadillos here in NM having leprosy though, that's news to me and the Fish and Game Dept. I just had to call them after reading that and we have no reported incidences of humans catching leprosy from an Armadillo! I know they like eggs, but I don't hold it against them as long the chickens don't hold me grabbing their eggs either.

I rarely see the dillo that lives on the vacant land behind ours, be he comes in the yard pretty regularly to grub it out. I love seeing the little guys. They don't see very well so they will let you get quite close. One cub scout camping trip we saw 20 or 30, they were everywhere. It was kinda fun.
