Here is a pic of my new trio out of the brooder and playing in a water bucket after eating peas.

I still have to pull them out but they are enjoying their time out now. Even ate some peas out of my hands and finally stopped chasing the Black East Indies. A major success in a week.

Unfortunately our shipped eggs only brought one duckling to the world. But luckely a really strong one! Unless we can find a duckling the same age it has to wait 3 weeks for some friends.

Day one already running around, pecking everything, us, our cat, and he/she has quite some muscle I noticed since she keeps grabbing my neck/chin skin and our hair/beard OUCH

6 days old and becoming a real spoiled brat;

Sorry for your loss. In my opinion hawks are varmints. I love ducks. They are super hardy, seldom get diseases and tolerate adverse weather well, but when it comes to predators they are the most helpless of all poultry species.
Agreed, my ducklng about 8 weeks old hurt her leg (has a little limp) she has no feathers due to our drake pulling all of them off and she is still here
