I took in somebody else's flock that had to get rid of them. It included this little cutie. He/She looks like he/she is wearing pajamas, so we're calling it PJ.

Daddy is a standard white cochin. I'm assuming mama is a Barred Rock. He/she has some feathers that stick out in weird ways.

Any guesses to the genetics causing this cutie?

I don't even know how old this one is - there are 4 about this age, but this one is the cutest. You think roo? That's fine with me. I'll keep him! If he's as nice as his daddy, he can stay here forever.

If you cross (recessive) white and barred you would get all black female babies, and barred males.
Besides color- I don't see anything right now that says roo. Looks like a normal cochin. If she fills out with sparse leg feathers (doesn't seem to be the case) then you'll know she was crossed with a non-cochin.

The only cochins in the flock were the roo and a white hen. So I'm sure this is a mix. And the only roo was the cochin.

And very interesting on the genetics! In this age group, there were 2 whites, a black with white flecks, and the barred baby.

The black one:

In the group of hens we got from the lady, there is the white cochin, a silver-penciled wyandotte (with 4 young chicks), a black hen that she thinks is a Jersey giant, and a Sumatra. She kept 4 hens, but I don't remember what they all were. I know one was another wyandotte, but didn't pay much attention to the rest.

I love genetics.
