cutest chicken names!

I let my grandchildren choose the name and they take "ownership" of those even though paw paw and I are the ones who care for them and feed them. They know exactly which girls are theirs and they keep a close check on them. They know which ones are the friendliest and it's sort of a competition between them about which one would lay first - Precious won that race. She belongs to the oldest twin - he is seven. The next to lay was Molly. She is the chosen one of the youngest grandson - he is six. Henny Penny finally dropped her first egg this week and I mean she literally dropped it - I was standing there and she was just walking to me and out plops her first egg. She never slowed up - just kept walking. She belongs to the second twin who is seven. Lady, short for Lady and the Tramp, was named by our then two year old granddaughter. Lady is the chick we had to nurse back to health and her left wing is paralyzed after that bout. Because of her extended illness and the paralysis I sort of doubt she will ever lay, but she is a pet and has earned her place in the flock so she stays. The fifth girl was named by the six year old and she is Lollipop. She is a little younger than the others. We had two others but they turned out to be roosters so we had to rehome them. They were Little Red Hen and we had called her Red which I guess could have remained the name if we had been able to keep him and the last one was named Lizzie but she turned out to be a Lamar so he too had to be re-homed. Today if all goes well I will be meeting someone for two pullets - will have to check with the grandchildren so see what their names will be. Right now the granddaughter is enamoured by Frozen and the Little Mermaid - so wouldn't surprise me if we got an Ariel or a Princess. With the boys - they have been leaning toward Godzilla - I know. But what can you do. They love choosing the names.
That is too cute. My grandparents never named their birds, but I would secretly do it and call them by name.

Well we got the two new pullets and with five grandchildren, there was a battle for the naming rights. They just could not agree - except one one name - Sweetie. So we had a Sweetie and the remaining names went into a hat to determine the second. We of course had Snowflake (and neither of the chicks were white), we had Sugarplum, Henrietta, Godzilla, Sadie, Pretty Girl, Long Neck and Goldie. And.....the winner is and I can't believe I am saying this - Long Neck. I could have even handled Godzilla better than Long Neck, but the luck of the draw. One of our girlies is Sweetie and the other is Long Neck.

To me Long Neck is better than Godzilla. It sure is original.

I cannot believe how many people I know name their animal charlie. Right now there's two chickens, there was two doves named Charlie, one pigeon, and one rabbit. It's really hard to keep them all straight.

Well Long Neck came from my youngest grandson and was voted on by the oldest twin. The only abstaining vote was the second twin and the granddaughter didn't care one way or another. Long neck is from his dinosaur collection - he calls his brochiosaurus Long Neck.

A Land Before Time inspired name? I think you already Godzilla was coming, but you were not prepared for Longneck.

Yes - he loves A Land Before Time. He is definitely a dinosaur fan. I had resigned myself to the strong possibility of Godzilla. He had mentioned it many times, but I wasn't quite prepared for Long Neck. I'm sure when folks hear the name they are going to be searching for a long necked chicken and when they see her wonder how in the world she came to have that name. Oh well. Long Neck it is.They enjoy watching them and playing with them and most of all naming them. They all know who is who and surprisingly my husband is beginning to get the hang of their names. He thought naming them was silly, but when he goes out to help me in the run, I hear him calling them by name and he will stoop down and pick them up and pet them. They have definitely grown on him and he is the one that decided it was time for us to get two more to replace the two little roosters. I thought he would be content with the smaller flock since eggs are not a priority with us. I was anxious for them to begin laying just because I wanted to harvest them, but so far we have given away most of the eggs. We're not big egg eaters. I use a few to cook with, but that's about it. But he asked me this week if I thought I could find a couple of pullets locally and we would get a couple more. I wasn't going to argue. I've enjoyed raising them.

You are giving them a good experience. That is what grandparents are for. They kinda pick up the things that parent don't or won't do that the kids will enjoy.

I've stuck with tv/ movie themed names.
Oswin (doctor who)
Ruby (supernatural)
Malia ( teen wolf)
Luna ( Harry Potter)
Archer ( the walking dead)

I had a rooster named Cas (supernatural) but we had to get rid of him so we game him to a nice farm.

I love Supernatural and the Walking Dead. I would have never thought to name one Castiel
