My husband and I are new chicken owners! So far, we love it. We have 15 Rhode Island Reds and are considering adding a few Silkies and/or Polish Crested to our flock. I have heard that it is possible for those breeds to be at the bottom of the pecking order due to their obstructed vision. First- is this true? Second, can you cut the feathers around their eyes/face to help them see better?

Thanks!!
Candice

I have two polish in my current batch of chicks - 8 - 10 weeks old. One thing I've noticed is that they are definitely smaller than the rest, which may also lead to their getting picked on more than the others. So far, though, my two little fluff-heads are holding their own.

I have read that people do trim their crest feathers. I've also seen pictures of them with elastics holding the feathers up!

Oh, and congratulations on your chickens, and
