We have enclosed a small section of our pond and the bank so that we could give the babies (7wks) more room, and so we could stop emptying and cleaning a kiddie pool everyday

They are in the bottom mid-right of the picture, they saw us drive in and are headed to the shelter to be fed.

The fence goes through the water touching the bottom so they can't get out.

Oh wow! What lucky swans!! That's a beautiful setting - I'd just like to sit around and enjoy the peacefulness of it.

Beautiful set-up! Makes me jealous.

Do you leave them in that or is it just a daytime residence. I would worry about predators getting through that fence and eating those beautiful birds.

They stay there all the time. We are worried about predators, but their enclosure is at the front of the property away from the woods and close to the road so we hope wildlife is at a minimum. At this point I am most worried about a loose dog getting to them, but they stick together and start hissing if they feel threatened so they look even bigger than they are.

They aren't very tame, and spend a lot of time on the water so its hard to catch them to do anything without getting wet. I don't want to overly stress them either. I have handled them since we got them at three days old, but the books say they stay fairly standoffish.

Edited to say: Thanks for all the complements on the pond! It was a big selling point when we bought the house.

Hmmmm I thought that was the feed area..?

Actually it is both. They really don't want to go into a shelter. We will have to build something for winter and work with them, but right now they seem happy.
