No, and I'm not a happy camper. Thanks for asking, though. I can't think of what could be wrong, but I'm not giving up hope yet. I have thought a few times that I saw it squirm, but I'm not entirely sure about that. We're about to go into Day 22 and I always have one or two hatch that day, so maybe this would have been that one, LOL. Everything has been great all the way through, including every candling. Guess we'll just have to continue waiting a bit longer. I wont let it go longer than Day 23, though. I think late hatching chicks aren't usually that vigorous.
Tomorrow, if nothing happens, I'll do the float test. By Wednesday, the next five will be ready to go in the hatcher and I just put in eight more today, so they'll be due the 28th.
Adam said he'll post pics this week. I dont think he has the net at home and uses a friend's computer when away from work. At least, I think that's what he told me. Yep, he's got the fever now and will start another hatch right away.
Jill, I really want her to hatch. I cant figure out why she wouldn't, but she's officially late now. I don't have to take her out yet, so we'll give her more time. I was wondering if perhaps the chick got too large for the pullet egg and just can't maneuver in there, but maybe that's nonsense. I would think I'd see some movement or hear cheeping like I usually do.
If this one doesn't make it, I have two more of Charlotte's that are due next Saturday and I just put in two of Silver's as well that are due the 28th. I only can have two more Ameraucana pullets in that coop, so if I have a third one, someone already has dibs on her. Silver's eggs are a lovely color, too, maybe a shade bluer than Charlotte's are unless my color perception is going downhill.
Sad news. We decided to open a hole in the air cell. We found a fully formed beautiful dead chick, fully-absorbed yolk who just never pipped. Can't figure out why. There was moisture inside with the chick, but the membrane seemed a little tough-didn't appear to have broken through it into the aircell. The humidity was great, everything was great, so I have no explanation for it. Crud. And it was blue.
That's what is puzzling. The humidity was wonderful, between 68-73% the last three days. My friend Kate, who hatches all the time, says that probably the membrane was just extra tough and nothing I could have done.
