Cyprus Mulch In An Outdoor Run

Anyone know a reason not to use cyprus mulch (as opposed to wood chips ore straw) in an open air outdoor run?

Any type of mulch will just hold moisture.

Unless it's in a low area where water stands, sand or bare dirt work better

The chickens are going to want to dig and take dust baths
