I am new to chickens. Please help! I picked up my chickens from the local feed store last month and noticed one of the buff orpingtons had pasty but. They said it was fine to just clean it off when I got home. I did and it was fine but I noticed a small bump on its mid back. I thought it would go away but it has grown to about the size of a large gumball. The chicken doesn't seem to be in pain and is acting and growing like the 5 other chicks I got. I was thinking of trying to drain it but feel it would be inhumane and that I might hurt it. I am not sure what a vet would charge me to look at it. Any suggestions would be appreciated I want to do the right thing for the chicken. Thank you.

Is there something under the skin? Maybe it it got injured and the place got infected? Does it look like there is pus underneath? It would be hard to say what it is. Some parasite insects can lay eggs under animal skin, but something like this would be rare case. If it is not infection, than probably you should take it to a vet that specialize in birds. Sorry can't help that much with this.
