I bought some agricultural D.E. yesterday, says "Pet Friendly" on the bag. It is in a powder form, not what I expected, how do I use it in the chicken coop?
Also, I was talking to a friend with horses and asked him if he ever uses "Stall Dry" and he said NO, he just puts down some agricultural lime to keep the smell of urine and other odors down . Does anyone have any advice for me on either topic?
Thanks Chicken Buddies.

You sprinkle the DE around. Cracks and crannies
Ag lime we use in the manure pile and chicken runs.
We sprinkle the lime between the layers of horse manure, it helps to keep the smell down and flies plus it neutralizes the PH level for faster decomposition.

Manure, urine are acidic. Lime is alkaline, "sweetens the soil"

We sprinkle the lime in the chicken runs and turn the soil over.

Years ago we used to make whitewash from lime and paint the barn walls but the horses would rub and get covered in white, so we stopped.
Pitch black horses don't look good with whitewash rub marks

I think the D earth is for pests ,such as lice.I would put it in a tub with some dry dirt for your chickens to dust in.As for odor control, I have a bagger on my mower, and i pile the clippings in the coop, the chickens love eating the plantain and grass, and the chlorophyll in the grass does a good job controlling the odor, much better than stall-dry,and its free.
