my son (4) lost his cockerel, oatmeal, to some neighboring dogs (they let their dogs run loose) and that was about 2-3 months ago and my baby still ask if he's coming back or if hes staying gone

on the other hand im about to shoot me some dogs that keep going after my live stock (thats completely legal and im an animal lover but these dogs are outta control and as much as i wouldnt want to i do need to protect my livestock (over $300 worth in chickens like 40 chickens and 16 ducks and 3 rabbits) and my sisters show these birds at the fair and when my kids get into 4-h they will show them) they have also killed 2 ducks and several chickens before this. they have leash laws for a reason why cant people just follow them??

I would find out whos dog they are and talk to the people or tell animal control, you could tell animal control anonymously by writing a letter

If this has been going on i would SSS because when you go to them and they denie it and someone else kills thier dog for the very same thing and SSS you are most likely gona get the blame for disposing of the dogs anyhow and ain't nothing worse than having a vengfull neighbor because they think you are the one that did away with their dog.
Just saying cause it happpend to me 15 years ago, gave the guy multipal chances returing his dog because of the kids, then the dog dissapeared, you know what i got the blame and i had nothing to do with it.

His kids caused alot of problems for me for a long time, even had a mediation hearing to try to straighten it out with videos of them , just made em more sneeky.
Recently i was speaking to the neighbor and we were discussing nussance animals and i mentiond if anyone ever had a complaint about my animals i would take care of it, you know what, he blurted out yea thats why i got rid of that hound that kept killing your chickens.

Sorry you got these problems and hope you can put a stop to it.

Don't waste your time talking to people about restraining their dogs. They know the risks and damage issue and do not care.

If their dogs go missing, injured,or dead they will suspect you if you previously contacted them. People make a choice to allow their dogs to roam. Observe to see if it is a roamer or escapee. I say give an escapee a second chance, but after that SSS. Why stress over it ya know? Some make a choice to let pets roam, and some make a choice to SSS.

If you don't want to kill someones pet then catch and AC it. I expect my animals to be safe inside the fence, but I know all bets are off if they escape. That is how things should be.

Zazouse that is funny/sad about the neighbor killing the dog(and admitting it to you years later),and you getting blamed and tortured for YEARS by the dog owners kids. That is so true.People will blame you even if you had nothing to do with it.

these are roamers not escapees i know this for a fact they have been roaming around for about 4 or more months now one, the 3 legged hound, has been roaming for over a year. i have no clue were they all live at and all 3 of these large dogs go in different directions when chased off. the hound will growl and snap at you if you try to chase it off so its also a danger to my 3 kids (ages 1, 4, and 5) and thats also the one who has bee caught in the act of killing our ducks and has been seen lurking around the rabbit cages.

If animal control won't help then I would do away with them myself, do they come around every day/night?

yes it is legal !! we have coyote's and my husband and daughters have shot alot and killed... cause the dogs are breeding with them. Ive also shot dogs! I am a big animal lover as well but... believe me if my farm is threatened in any way... thats the only thing you can do . country living ... the owners think its okay to let their dogs roam and to me.... IT'S WRONG !! . I say do what you have to do to protect your farm ! People just don't care anymore. It's sad. ( touchy subject for me..). once the preditors get the taste.. thats it . it's a battle to keep them away and the only option is... well we know what that is ! sorry to say but true!! Good Luck

they used to but since chasing them away a few times they stopped coming every night but during the day you can see them just roaming around the other houses. one i think lives before our place, the other across from us, and the 3 legged hound right up the side road at the end, these are only guesses but thats were i always see them laying around and those people dont chase them off but they are seen petting them and feeding them so im guessing thats the owners. mind you these are 2 large one looks like a German shep mix, one a boarder collie or some other herding breed mix, and the 3rd is med sized hunting hound and all three have been caught in the act of either killing the chickens/ducks are trying there hardest to get into the pens.

So they may not have owners. Here in Florida, esp with the economy what it is, some people are "releasing" there dogs in their neighborhood and/or the everglades. It is sad and isn't a good solution.
i can tell you the 3 legged hound has an orange hunting collar on, hes the one giving the most problems and the 3 of them tend to run in a pack when they are seen. its either 2 of them or all 3 of them together. I've had to stay up a few nights in the row to protect my flock as i have already lost to many to them as it is.
