Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Got some new babies yesterday! They're a pair, but the drake is molting right now. Apparently they're show quality (I don't think so, but the female is better quality than the drake obviously). I was going to have an all white flock, but when I saw them, I couldn't resist. White and gray don't mix right?
They're cuties! Not sure what you mean about gray and white. Do you mean is it okay to breed them together?
Sorry, I'm so confusing sometimes! I need to work on that. What I'm saying is, I wanted to breed whites come spring. My birds free range and I don't want to build a separate pen just for the grays. If my gray male breeds with the white hen or my white drake breeds with the gray hen, will the colors mix? Or will the babies come out either gray or white?

That should give you gray with recessive white. You should be able to get back to white with color defects by breeding the resulting ducks back to a white. Once those defects are introduced by breeding with gray, you'll never completely get rid of them, which doesn't really matter if you're not breeding for show.

Darn... I was hoping I'd still get mostly white. I'll run a test hatch or two in spring and see what the colors come out to be. If it's not what I want, I'll sell the grays.

Pip was having a hard time making it out, so I am praying the siblings make it out ok! This is the first clutch for my call girl! I am over the moon!

I'm working on the genetics stuff but am not anywhere near as good with it as some here. I'm hoping you'll get responses from some who are certain how that's likely to work out. They really are very cute little ducks.
