Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Yup.  I just went to your posts, found the submission of Winter. Clicked on each picture then at the bottom of the pop-up is a button that says original.  I click on that and I get the actual picture as you submitted it.  Right click in Firefox select "View Image Info" and it says the size of the image :D   Sounds harder than it is.... about 15 seconds / picture.

Wow! Thank you for doing that for me :) So, the first one's too small? I l o v e that one!

Any pic can be enlarged, but you have to add background to it unless you want to resize the pic. That could easily be done with the second one, but not with the other. It would be very distorted if it were stretched that much. I can resize the larger one a bit for you if you want.

No problem

. You might be able to make a collage with the first picture and a couple more to make a single picture that is big enough. Don't know if it will fly, but if you don't come up with something else, what's it gonna hurt to try.

Can I get your guys help real quick? I'm trying to submit photos for the 2016 BYC "other poultry" calendar and we're only allowed to pick 2. I've got 4 that fit the size requirement but I just can't pare 'em down! Which two do you think I should put in? (also this is a handy way to just look at photos of call ducks. Win-win.) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1015019/byc-2016-other-poultry-types-calendar-pics-needed
IMO, the 2nd one down of Bean because it shows how big her eyes are and her web is all stretched out and Wobs as Choose Goose. I wish the Handsome Wobs fit cuz I'd vote him for a month.

I'll try to get better photos this weekend, and I'll show you guys, for sure!

Also I had a question for you call breeders out there. I'm serious about the idea of using Bean as a baseline for a new call duck paint job. I know a few of you have blue pied or bibbed. Firstly, do any of your birds have the amount of rusting or splotchy, tortoiseshell-esque pattern that Bena has? and 2 Do any of your birds show a lot of chocolate or caramel coloring on them?

I think what I'd like to do is, after seeing what kind of babies Wobbles and Bean make together, I'd like to see if bringing in chocolate or blue pied will help mix the colors even further and really boost the calico pattern Bean's got. I've never seen a moggie duck, and it'd sure be cool to be the first! I'd call the first babies "s'mores" :p

Hehe yep. I swear, every time I look at Bean her pattern changes. She's growing more caramel on one side and a few chocolate feathers on the other. She's such a strange little duck!

I really would love to know what her true color is. She just looks so unique, but I know deep down she probably falls under an existing category of some sort. I'd just really love to make a line of calico ducks and I think I can do it with her!

I know, right?? What a cool new color that could be!

After some digging I found this thread here on BYC: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/629394/magpie-call-ducks

Apparently, it's a rare quirk of genetics when you get a blue pied that's heterozygous for black (oddly enough that's also how you create copper betta fish, another animal I used to breed), but she says that the color isn't stable and won't breed true. But I'd like to give it the ol' college try and see if I can! Maybe if I can find a drake that's another wonky blue/black hetero, I can see what their babies will make. Since it's such an unusual color break, maybe she had no luck because there just wasn't another similarly colored hen to breed to.

I think adding a chocolate, or finding another rare mutant blue, could result in s'more ducks. Or it could be a waste of time. But either way, I get babies!
