Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Ours are eating less than normal, which has me really worried. I don't remember them ever doing the fattening up thing, which would presumably fall earlier for us than for you since you're on the opposite coast. Calls aren't migratory, but they could still be fueling up for the winter, or they could be fueling up to make BITTY BABY BEANS!!!

Ha, if only! Wee Beans! <3

Maybe it does have something to do with the fact that I'm so far up North. I just dunno, though! Bean has always eaten like a...well, like a bird, heh. But now she's just as much of a piggy as Wobbles!

Oh my gosh! I didn't think of this before, but beanie babies are about to make a comeback!!!

...Oh for the love of Pete.

He's actually six going on seven... But some days I wish he were four again! It's a fun age. He loves them but like most children, he looses interest quickly. Especially when I really don't want him handling them while they are adjusting.
awe, ok, I apologize for the age mix up. Good thing then that he does lose interest after a while so that Gidget and Gadget can adjust.

I don't know if any of you put leg bands on your duck's but today I found out that can be potentially dangerous. Gadgets band somehow got caught on his wing feathers and his leg was stuck up by his wing while swimming. I had planned on cutting the bands off after they had some time to adjust. Needless to say it was done today. Gidget was banded on both legs, one plastic and one metal. We got the plastic one off fine but we are nervous about the other one and so left it for now. I teared up pretty good tonight though. Both Gidget and Gadget ate lettuce from my hand!!! Yep, my babies are coming around! I am so happy!
Awe, so sweet they did that. Now I am tearing up. Sweet little puffalumps.

Actually, I had a question for all you lovely call duck parents out there - do your birds turn into garbage disposals around this time of year? Bean's always been a finicky eater, and Wobbles is hit-or-miss, but starting this week they've both become total hogs! I'm guessing that their instincts are telling them it's getting time to migrate and they're trying to gobble up enough food to fuel their long journey? I know they tend to eat less in winter, so fall is probably Fatty Duck Time. That's just my assumption, anyway. Otherwise they're both going to turn into volleyballs at this rate.
Wow, that is a cute vision even if it's not what you'd prolly want.
