Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

I'm beginning to think that if I get an address, I might move in with her and take some Calls with me. We should help her look for a new place. :D

That's an even better idea! And send us pics of the prospects to help decide! Meanwhile, she'll be doting all over those Calls and be moved before she knows what happened! :celebrate

Julie, I have a hard time believing you even asked that question. You wouldn't allow them to not be okay. You'd probably fuss over them the way many mothers fuss over their newborn babies. I can honestly see you telling them, "What did that quack mean? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Do you want a bath? A treat? Just some attention?" They'd probably be some of the most spoiled ducks on the planet.

Most people who have ducks work, and even those who don't work outside the home don't spend every minute with them. I work from home, but ours still stay penned all day as if I worked away from home. I just have too many crises to deal with at work to feel like I'd be able to check on them every few minutes to make sure they were okay in the yard. As long as they had a safe place to stay while you're at work, which of course would mean something with a top if you want Calls, they would be absolutely fine.
Thank you Gina. I appreciate that. I would be a hovering mother over the pair if I got some. I will at some point but I have to move first and believe me I am looking. That is a relief knowing that people work and keep ducks. And they would be super spoiled. I spoil my finches. I think all the domestic duck breeds are awesome but the Calls just do something to me. I went out on a long bike ride today and couldn't stop thinking about them. But when the time comes I am not sure which way to go. I am not interested in them breeding but I would want them to be good friends. Is it ok to just have 2 that are the same sex? I don't care if I have two girls or two boys. But I have heard girls can be loud. It would not bother me but I'd be concerned about neighbors.

I am glad you keep yours penned up safely while you work. That makes me feel better. If they were mostly house calls they'd have to be penned up in something decent that gave them room. I'd take them outside but they'd be strictly supervised.

If you get them as a pair and they bond together, then yes, they should! Mind you, Wobbles n' Bean for the most part are restricted to my upstairs - about the size of the average 1-bedroom apartment. Nudge, nudge. ;)

The only issue would be giving them enough space. I'm doing research on how to DIY my own setup and I've seen others turn Ikea bookshelves into indoor duck runs as well by just using caulk, linoleum, and elbow grease!
Heehee. Love the nudge, nudge. What is a duck run? And while in the duck run that is indoors would they be diaper less? I'd want mine to be indoors like yours but since I work away from the house all day, I'd be concerned about a full diaper after 9 hours of being away.

Sounds like people get pretty creative with cool things making their duckies comfy. I love it. Mine would have to be restricted to a space too. SInce I am not home, they'd need to be. But then, what if they can fly out of the indoor run thing? Unless it has a top. I don't know. So many things to consider.

x2 on all that!!

There isn't a more deserving person who needs some Calls like you do, Julie... and would be absolutely super awesome with them... those would be the luckiest little round ducks ever to have you to care for them and love them... I agree with Gina very much and would love to help get some Calls to you if you move to a place where you can have them...

Operation: Getting Julie Bird Some Round Ducks is just waiting for that address...

Weeee, I love that RavynFallen. Thank you so much. I appreciate your and @JadeComputerGal 's generosity and guidance in getting me started. They would be so loved and if it was all right with them and not stressful, they would constantly be handled and kissed and petted. I think those little chubbery round webbied softies are just what I need.

I go on craigslist several times a day to check listings. Most places don't allow pets but there are some that do. The next challenge after that is something in my price range. I am in Bend, OR and the average rental price is like 1500-1700/mo. But I keep looking. You never know...

Heehee. I'd love that Gina. I am always on the lookout daily for places. Could you imagine that scenario? Call duck enablers. How would we get anything done? Who Cares!!!!

A pair of boys is really very quiet compared to a mated pair... and yes, they can live together very well... I have 2 boys separate from my others right now and they are super sweet...
