Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

I finally had to full on assist.
It was so nerve wracking and painful,
but he wriggled his way out finally,
and now I'm just trying to keep him contained because his yolk didn't absorb all the way.

I didn't want to be a babysitter cause I don't like having lives in my hands,
but I'd do anything for these babies.

oh dear i happened on this thread and not a duck owner! but now a duck hatching drama addict. Hope all is well with baby #3...take good care...fingers crossed for baby...wish I had some call ducks.

I do have waterfront here a very large pond with an island but it freezes over in winter...thinking that would not work well...have seen mallards on the property years ago...

He's ok, moving a lot, chatting a lot.
He finally separated from the egg but there is some yolk left, but he isn't bleeding.

The babies are all fluffy in the brooder, and he's crying for them.
Should I let him in a little sooner?
I feel like he'll need food and water sooner too.
I'm so relieved but exhausted.

Didja put him in a little cup to absorb the yolk? I read that is the thing to do. So glad he sounds ok right now!

Could you gently put him back inside the half shell and prop him up in a cup for a bit or is he too squirmy?

I tried!
But he's wayyy too squirmy and he's basically zipping all over the place.
I think he's going to be ok.

He already separated from the yolk and everything so, it's too late to get him all situated again. I might just bring him into the brooder a little early just so he's doesn't get dehydrated.

If He is running around active I bet he is fine. Maybe it was just some waste stuck to him that looked like yolk. If He is all fluffed up and energetic I'm sure it's safe to put in the brood r.
Don't worry if he don't eat *right* away. They can live off the absorbed yolk for quite a while without needing to eat.
