Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

So they started on day 21, making them five days early? That's still pretty early, but less crazy than them hatching on day 19. What temperature was your incubator at? And was this verified by a separate thermometer or were you just trusting a built in display?
Between 99.5 and 100.5. You can calibrate the thermometer on the incubator to make sure it’s right and I did that

My incubator was set to 28 days when I put them in. Was on 7 when they started hatching. It’s air forced. Humidity was kept between 45 and 65. And after day 10 I raised it to 55-75

Humidity sounds a tad high, IMO... I tend towards lower for mine... did you mist at all? Hand turned, side laying turner or upright turner?

Also I bought the eggs through the mail so they couldn’t have started early.

Actually, if they weren't collected properly or were stored in too warm of temps development *can* start and be suspended for a couple days... just fyi...

It is always still a good idea to keep and extra thermometer and hygrometer or 2 in the bator... many times some have gone haywire mid incubation...

I have a side turner. That’s what someone said on Facebook. I read online that you want it high like that but I guess they were wrong. I did not mist them. Didn’t find out you could do that till today. Also do you have call ducks? There is like no one in my area that sells them. That’s why I want to get into them. I’ll be looking for some good quality adults in the spring.

A lot of people think waterfowl need higher humidity, but in actuality they usually don't... misting the eggs mimics the broody taking a dip in pond, etc, and the water across the shell evaporates pulling more moisture out of the egg... high humidity in the bator inhibits moisture loss in the egg...

Yes, I have a lot of Calls, lol... what you want to look for is breeder quality, rather than the super typey show quality... and any and all sizes/types can and will throw and and all sizes and types... are you wanting any specific color variety?

Definitely White, Snowy, Butterscotch, Magpie and Black. If you have them.

Little brat was inside today for supervision. He flew inside the dog run and one of them had him in her mouth before I got there. No injury, thank goodness, except maybe to my heart. He now has trimmed wings.

Question, do I have to clip the secondaries too?
