Happy mother’s day! I joined to share this story: my call duck flock was attacked by skunks. They ate almost all the chicks and 1 duck. Badly injured the remaining 2 ducks so i hatched their eggs in an incubator. Skunk came back a month later and killed momma duck. What would daddy duck do? He followed me around, begging to come in, wanting to be carried and held all day. Long story, i finally took a chance and put him in the big brooder w his babies. OMGosh, he’s the best momma ever! Cuddles and watches and calls softly to his children, quacks a warning lightly to me to when i “hover” over them. The runty baby is always by his side, sleeps with him and eats with him. Never saw anything like it. Happy mother’s day to the best substitute duck mommy ever!

That is so sweet.:love Can we have some pics?

:welcome

I hope before you move dad and his kids outside you have your pen and coop super fortified so that nasty murdering skunk can't get to these.

So sorry for your losses.

How do i add pictures? They are so sweet. Any hints for skunk proofing? The night of the second attack was entirely my fault and I’m still beating myself up about it. Spent a month feeding my ducks antibiotics and putting salve on their wounds. Then after they were back outside I locked up so well every night. Except one night. . I have a timer set on my smart phone now so i never fall asleep and forget again.

I am so happy to hear this. I am working on introducing a pair of ducklings to my flock and so far the only one that shows any interest in them is my drake. I hope he will mother them and protect them the way yours has!

So sweet!!! Sorry for your losses to….

That’s okay such beautiful little family. Hardware cloth is our best defense against predators top sides and bottom. Great you now have your timer set. They are so beautiful. Welcome to BYC
