Daily Duck Egg Report for 2016

I got my 2 welsh harlequin girls last July (first ducks ever) and was super surprised to go out to the pen mid February and find an egg! I thought it would be at least another month or two before we got any. Then yesterday after not going out of only one day I find 6 eggs from the 2 ducks! Seems one of my ducks had laid 2 both days. One has been laying in the shelter and one in the dirt outside in just random places.

Thank you! I was so excited I took pics of the first egg lol. I was so proud.

Aww! I blew out my ducks first egg and made a "baby's first egg" ornament!
That egg is a very pretty cream color!!

I thought about doing that but didnt get a chance before it was thrown out. They have all been that color, yesterday one of them was a little darker but for the most part just pretty creamy eggs. That by the way are super yummy. The first duck egg I ever tried came from my own, which is also pretty cool.

Yummmm! I actually had to buy a dozen eggs this winter, yuck. Didn't finish the 2 I cooked and gave the rest to the dogs. Now I've got soooo many eggs I can't get rid of them fast enough and no more room in the freezer for quiches

We have a few people asking but with only 2 ducks our pile doesn't seem to stay long enough to give any to anyone else. This is my selling point when trying to convince the hubby we need two more lol. We don't eat eggs super often but when we do we will use 6 or 8 at a time. If we do that once a week most of them are gone.

I'm getting a dozen a day... Thank goodness our weather is about to turn. I can start letting everyone sit a nest! Ducklings sell fast, eggs will later.

I finally got a weight on my duck egg thanks to now having a digital kitchen scale from a very sweet person on here.

Muscovy duck egg weighed in at 2.50oz. Goose egg just for comparison 5.61oz
