Dairy Goat

she could get mastitis is this happens to often but usually you will get most of it out and then get whats left next milking make sure you give the udder a massage and try to milk it a bit more after you are done because this could allow the rest of the milk to drop.

Good Luck I want a few goats but my mom won't let me

Also if you dont milk her out she will make less milk each time. Yep massage her or rub her udder before milking and squirt each teat at least 2 times before aiming it in the bucket. After you get through strip the teat and let her stand about 5 minutes so the teat will seal back. This way if she lays down crap wont get in her teats. Or use a teat spray after you get through. But yes its good to milk her out and not leave alot or she will stop making milk slowly each time as they only make as much as you take out.

Hi, this is Nicole, Beejay's other half

I'm too rough of a milker... I've bruised her teats and she has a bit of chaffing on one side. I feel awful. We were using a tea tree oil spray for the week to disinfect after milking. I use TTO for the horses a lot and thought it would be ok for the udder. Last night we used some Bag Balm instead to soothe the chaffing and this morning there were little water blisters on her udder on one side. Poor girl. I'm not sure if its from the TTO or the bag balm. Has anyone else experienced this? We want to do the best for her but things seem to be getting worse instead of better...what kind of magic ointment can I use? I can post pics...

Hopefully someone will come along with more info for you, as I don't have any real suggestions for you, but I do know that tea tree oil can burn/blister sensitive skin. I love the stuff, too, but you have be careful with it especially if it is strong or undiluted...

Good luck!

Are you pulling in the teats? I read that you should never pull on them because it will damage them.

Are you diluting the Tea Tree Oil or is this a spray that you bought?

edited: Me and Crunchie were posting at the same time. I deal with Tea Tree Oil every day and even though some will disagree...Tea Tree Oil is not for use directly on the skin without being diluted. If I get pure Tea Tree Oil on my skin I break out in a red rash and the burning KILLS me. I have sensitive skin and I would assume an udder would be pretty sensitive.

I don't think I am pulling, but I think I am squeezing too hard....

The TTO is a diluted spray...it's 15% TTO combined with a blend of other essential oils. We've stopped using it for now....
