Daisy MIGHT make it, and now Chicklet is sick, too! UPDATE! :)

We don't have pedialyte... What about gatorade? That's the closest thing probably...

You can do it, but Gatorade has a LOT of sugar in it.

I've seen water with electrolytes for sale as Sprouts. Just electrolytes, no sugar or anything. Or maybe you can find some electrolyte powder at a health store or something. TSC(or maybe other feed stores) have things like Save-A-Chick, which is pretty much electrolytes, too.

ETA: If you have to use Gatorade, dilute it! I think it's a 1 to 10 ratio with water.

My parents are getting the Sulmut for me!

They should be home soon. Daisy is standing up and walking around now too! Chicklet is doing good, she's just like normal-ish now.

Well, it'd be nice if he could understand it's not just the cost of a chicken when there's an emotional attachment...it's hard to place a value on the stress of losing a pet. I just bought a packet of Tetracycline powder to keep on hand (enough to make 100 gallons of medicated water) - it only cost $7.99. I'd bring it right over, if I lived closer. I have a lot of chickens too, but each one is special and different in his/her own way.

I'm betting (and hoping) your beloved hens will continue to improve, but when you get a chance, it would be good to get some medicine to have on hand for the future. Maybe someone else in your family could help with that.

Good luck!

I guess I was premature in my last post. Hooray for understanding parents! Hooray for beloved hens' improvement!!

Tetracycline powder also goes by the name Duramycin-10. Ask a store employee. There is more than one kind.

My parents just called and said that TSC didn't have any Sulmet or Corrid.

Roar. I have no idea what to do now...

I just looked it up on the TSC website: they have Duramycin-10, it's $4.99 for the exact same packet I bought (makes 100 gallons of medicated water).

Alright... Well, I think we've got a diagnosis... Somebody suggested that it was a form of poultry botulism...

From Wikiedia:
In poultry and wild birds, flaccid paralysis is usually seen in the legs, wings, neck and eyelids. Broiler chickens with the toxicoinfectious form may also have diarrhea with excess urates.

That explains the diarrhea, the floppy comb and how she couldn't stand up.
