Dakota, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation! Very important.
I'll have to measure out all I have so far. A 6 inch tall strip across the front where the roof slopes by 8feet. 0-6 inches by 6 feet on both sides of the roof. Then I currently have 2 windows on the run side one in the front and 1 on non run side. Intend to cut second on non run side. Do u have a recommendation on ventilation sizes?

Depends on climate, summer/winter temps. And other factors. But bigger is better for ventilation when it’s hot 🥵

Hi, Dakota. One member here, Bob at FluffyButt Acres, talks about how he built his coop and then realized that the prevailing winds in his area did not give his chickens any cross ventilation. Think about (or use the National Weather Service notes for your area) how the winds usually blow when there are not storms. You want the chickens to get nice breezes coming through and then not to get the worst storm winds, if you can help it. You may not be able to achieve all of that, but it's worth thinking about right now since you are building.

You are doing a great job! Good luck getting your hands on some shingles. Often at Home Depot, I find they will give me shingles out of a broken package. Heh, heh.

Aim for 1 sq ft of permanent ventilation per bird with the ability to add (much) more for summer.
They rarely go in the coop during the day, they get worms in the morning then terrorize all the bugs and dig holes all over the place when its hot lol. they have some great spots right now to some picnic tables under some low growing trees. If i ever have fly strike problems ill be weirded out. I think i need to down size anyway though more of my silkies are looking like boys all of a sudden..... 50/50 straight run and i seem to have gotten terrible luck. lol. 4/5 its looking like were boys. 2/2 porcelains were boys. I shouldn't gamble.
