One of my 4 week old BCM chicks has this strange beak growth on her bottom beak I just noticed a couple days ago.
She eats and drinks and it isn’t bleeding but it looks strange. The nostril was shut when I first discovered it so I soaked it with Vetericyn to clean it out. Everyday I have checked it the nostril is open more and more but there is still a little bit of crusty, like scab.
Has anyone seen something similar? I’m wondering if she accidentally got caught on some 1/4” hardware cloth edge and started healing on her own or if this is a deformity from something else entirely.
I understand beaks are like fingernails so I’m wondering if they grow back funky like nails when the growth bed is damaged or something. Hopefully she makes a full recovery because this is one of those special chicks I was never supposed to buy on my way to the grocery store.
If it’s contagious I really want to know too.
