I have never seen them so bad. Anyone else having gnat problems?

I lost 2 chicks to gnats this year. Some people call them turkey gnats and the females suck blood before they lay eggs. I never knew it could happen and had no idea what to do. I found out that dryer sheets and vanilla scented air freshner works to repel them. I ended up hanging those tacky pine tree shaped (vanilla scented) car things around my brooder.

I have them here too! I bought some powder from the farm store for livestock and sprinkled it over the chickens, in their nesting box and on the floor. I bought some sticky thing to hang next to the window ( it seems they like the light) and all seems to be working some. I even pluged in an zapper out side in the tree.

Wow, glad I don't have those here. We have the no-see-um gnats, and they bite, but it's not fatal.

Do the chickens not eat them or is there just too many of them?

Permectin spray works really well for our gnats, wonder if it would work for yours?

My brother-in-law just called me and he has lost 4 in 20 minutes to these gnats. He told me to spray them with vanilla-----not mixed with anything--just full strength. This is my first year raising these little critters so don't want to lose them after they have just gotten their feathers. He has raised them for years. So he and my sister are a big help.
